What planning and design covers

From there the scope moves into layout, touchdown and liftoff area sizing, final approach and takeoff area, taxi and parking positions for multiple aircraft, and the physical separation needed between simultaneous operations. Because electric aircraft need charging between flights, the layout also has to account for charging bay positions and the electrical infrastructure feeding them, which conventional heliport layouts do not need to plan for.
Why this differs from a conventional heliport
A vertiport shares much of its geometry logic with a heliport but adds requirements a helicopter site never had: higher throughput expectations for urban air mobility routes, charging downtime built into the turnaround cycle, and in many concepts, vertical takeoff profiles steeper than a conventional helicopter approach.
